We can now confirm that Pokemon Legends Z-A takes place about five years after the events of Pokemon X & Y. This comes from an NPC discussing the “mess” with Team Flare.
That means that not much time has passed since Team Flare almost ended the world and the X & Y protagonists saved it. It also shows how quickly some of the characters (including a major spoiler) have aged. AZ specifically has aged quite a bit, Mabel has grown up with Sycamore and Clement no longer in Lumiose City.
But where in the timeline with the other games is Legends Z-A?
Well, according to that NPC in the Reddit post, this is sometime after the protagonist from Sword and Shield took down Eternatus and Chariman Rose. So there is a chance that Pokemon Legends Z-A is as far into the future as we have gotten so far.
It is also worth mentioning that the Museum in Lumoise City has been updated for Pokemon Legends Arceus. There is even a chance that a favorite character from that game is still running around somewhere, but that will be for a different day.
