Picking the best Pokemon for Legends Z-A Online Ranked Battles can be challenging, but luckily for you, we have our picks for the top 10 you’ll want to consider in your next multiplayer match. These are taken from several online tournament results, as well as our own analysis of the current meta.
Sometimes, the best option is the counter pick, and that’s the case for Manectric. This is a strong and fast Special Attack sweeper that can counter some of the more meta picks currently running rampant in Pokemon Legends Z-A Online Multiplayer.
In a recent 32-player online tournament, the second-place team ran a Manectric, and we have seen it used in other tournaments as well.
Clefable has been seen on several tournament teams thus far and can be used in both a bulky, supportive role or as another sweeper. This is a flexible pick and also gives Clefable Flying type in Mega form, allowing it to dodge those pesky Earthquakes that are popular in Ranked Online Battles.
If you want to go slightly off-meta and still run a strong Dragon-type Pokemon, Salamence is a great option. It’s a stat beast, boasts the same Flying type benefit as Mega Clefable, and gives you a well-rounded 700 base stat option in its Mega Form.

Mega Skarmory may only have 565 base stats, but it has a very high Attack stat. Look to use the higher defensive stats of Skarmory (140 Defense), then transition to offense (140 Attack) in its Mega Form.
Speaking of base stats, Mega Chandelure boasts one of the highest single Special Attack stats in the game with 175. This, paired with its Ghost/Fire typing, makes it a problem to deal with for some teams and a good counter to popular Steel typings.

Excadrill is a great choice to counter some popular picks, but it can also be vulnerable to some others. But, with a strong Attack stat (165) in Mega Form, you can dish out serious damage. With its Ground/Steel type, it is resistant to 8 types, immune to Electric and Poison, and only weak to the following types:
Emboar gains a lot of defensive stats in Mega Form (110 Sp. Def and 75 Def) while still keeping a solid 148 Attack. Fire/Fighting allows for some good counterplay, but also makes you weak to Psychic and Ground type moves, which have proved to be staple move types in Online Ranked.
Garchomp’s tournament usage has remained very high since the start of Season 1, and it’s no surprise why. Its Mega Form has 170 Attack and 700 overall base stats, and boasts a great typing combination to provide significant firepower. Its one Achilles heel is Ice moves (4x weakness), so stay on your guard if you are using Garchomp.

In the most recent online tournament for Legends Z-A, Gyarados was run the most of any single Pokemon (12.5% usage). And, the nice part is that you really don’t have to Mega Evolve Gyrados to get value. But, you can Mega Evolve to avoid some typing matchups, as Gyrados goes from Water/Flying to Water/Dark when it Mega Evolves.
All in all, none can touch Metagross in Pokemon Legends Z-A Online Ranked Multiplayer. This Pokemon is insanely hardy, has a strong Mega Evolution (700 base stat), solid typings, and can be plugged into almost any team in Legends Z-A. Metagross has been consistently used at a solid rate in online multiplayer tournaments, and that shouldn’t change.
