Pokémon Legends Z-A is shaking up the franchise yet again with its new take on Pokémon battles and the addition of Wild Zones. These two mechanics were confirmed in the 2025 Pokémon Day announcement, along with the release date of the game, a first look at Lumiose City, and much more. Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect from Pokémon Legends Z-A.
Pokémon Legends Z-A looks like it will completely change how we think about the normal Pokémon battle, with attacks now having proximity, trainers being on the battlefield, and Pokémon dodging out of attacks live. This looks to move away from the typical turn-based structure of old, making way for more live battles, almost like an RTS-style game in some ways. And, from the looks of it, some of the same mechanics will be on display in Wild Zones, where players will be catching new Pokémon in Legends Z-A’s city, Lumiose City.
This was all announced in the Pokémon Day 2025 announcement video, which you can see below.
Lumiose City is the setting for Pokémon Legends Z-A, which is set in a futuristic cityscape filled with skyscrapers, holograms, and other future tech. You can already see it in its full glory, thanks to members of the community. This map looks incredible and we can’t wait to dive in fully when Pokémon Legends Z-A comes out later this year.

A new part of Pokémon Legends Z-A are the Wild Zones within Lumiose City, which allow players to catch wild Pokémon in specific zones. These zones feature all kinds of different Pokémon that you will catch using the new real-time battling system. All in all, this is just one of the many new gameplay changes that are set to arrive in Pokémon Legends Z-A.
These are almost reminiscent of the Safari Zone in games past, but look to be the primary driver for catching new Pokémon in Legends Z-A.
Pokémon Legends Z-A will be released in late 2025, according to developers. Until then, keep an eye out for Pokémon Champions, big changes to Pokémon TCG Pocket, and more in 2025! We’ll keep you up-to-date with all of the latest, here at The Game Haus.
