Assault Vest is the safest item because it lets Tyranitar take special hits while sand boosts its special bulk.

Lum Berry helps Dragon Dance builds avoid status while setting up.

Best Pokemon to Pair with Tyranitar

Tyranitar works best with Pokemon that cover its weaknesses, support its preferred speed control or help it find safer turns.

Excadrill

Benefits from sand and pressures Steel, Rock and Fairy-type Pokemon.

Gardevoir

Pressures Fighting-type Pokemon that threaten Tyranitar.

Pelipper

Can reset weather when sand is not useful and supports Water-type teammates.

Rock Slide gives Tyranitar useful spread pressure into teams that rely on Flying or Fire-type attackers.
