Best Items for Metagross

Assault Vest is the best general item because it improves Metagross’s special bulk while it attacks.

Metagrossite is the best item for the Mega build because Mega Metagross is faster and much harder to trade into.

Best Pokemon to Pair with Metagross

Metagross works best with Pokemon that cover its weaknesses, support its preferred speed control or help it find safer turns.

Milotic

Punishes Intimidate and covers Fire and Ground-type threats.

Altaria

Covers Fire and Fighting pressure while Metagross handles Fairy and Ice-types.

Sharpedo

Pressures Ghost and Fire-type Pokemon that can bother Metagross.

What Metagross Is Good Against

Metagross is strong against Fairy, Ice, Rock, Fighting and Poison-type Pokemon. Its typing gives it many useful resistances.

Bullet Punch gives Metagross priority for finishing weakened targets.

Potential Counters for Metagross

Metagross is threatened by Fire, Ground, Ghost and Dark-type attacks. Burns also reduce its offensive value heavily.

Houndoom

Threatens Metagross with Fire and Dark-type attacks.

Camerupt

Pressures Metagross with Fire and Ground-type damage.

Sableye

Can burn Metagross and slow down its physical pressure.
