Gyarados has two main builds in Pokemon Champions. The Intimidate support build is the safest option, while the Dragon Dance build can become a win condition.
This is the main Gyarados build. It uses Intimidate to weaken physical attackers while still threatening damage with Waterfall.

Gyarados stats are shown below for easy comparison.
Sitrus Berry is the safest item because it helps Gyarados stay active after switching in to use Intimidate.
Lum Berry helps Dragon Dance sets avoid burns and paralysis, while Wacan Berry softens Electric-type attacks.
Gyarados works best with Pokemon that cover its weaknesses, support its preferred speed control or help it find safer turns.
Gyarados is strong against Fire, Ground, Fighting and Bug-type Pokemon. Intimidate makes it especially useful into physical attacking teams.
Dragon Dance gives Gyarados a way to become a late-game sweeper once its checks are removed.
Gyarados is heavily threatened by Electric-type attacks and also dislikes Rock-type coverage. It needs careful support to avoid being removed quickly.
Fast Electric-type attacker that heavily threatens Gyarados.
Can pressure Gyarados with Electric-type damage.
Threatens Gyarados with Grass-type attacks and Sleep Powder.
Gyarados can learn Water, Flying, Dark, Dragon and coverage moves across different Pokemon games. Use the section below to view the full move list by learn method.
