Best Charizard Builds in Pokemon Champions

Charizard has two main builds in Pokemon Champions. The Mega Charizard Y build is the stronger offensive option, while the non-Mega build is better when another Pokemon needs the Mega slot.

Build 1: Mega Charizard Y Sun Attacker

This is the main Charizard build. It focuses on immediate pressure with sun-boosted damage. Mega Charizard Y is one of your main offensive pieces, so this build should be played aggressively.

Item Charizardite Y
Ability Drought after Mega Evolution
Nature Timid, +Speed and -Attack
Moves Heat Wave, Solar Beam, Protect, Overheat

Best Items for Charizard

Charizardite Y is the best item for the main build because it enables Mega Charizard Y and gives Charizard Drought. This is the best version when Charizard is one of your main attackers.

Leftovers or Sitrus Berry are the best options for the non-Mega build. These items give Charizard more staying power when it is not being used as the main Mega Pokemon.

Best Pokemon to Pair with Charizard

Charizard works best with Pokemon that either benefit from sun, support fast offensive teams or help Charizard avoid bad matchups.

Venusaur

Strong sun partner with boosted Speed and access to Sleep Powder.

Torkoal

Another strong option for sun teams and weather control.

Whimsicott

Helps set up fast-paced offensive teams and gives Charizard more chances to attack first.

What Charizard Is Good Against

Charizard is strong against teams that struggle with Fire-type pressure, sun and special attacking damage. It is especially useful into Grass, Bug, Steel and Ice-type Pokemon.

Mega Charizard Y also has Solar Beam, which helps punish some Water, Rock and Ground-type Pokemon that would normally try to switch into Charizard.

Potential Counters for Charizard

Charizard is heavily threatened by Rock, Electric and Water damage. Teams with strong weather control or fast super-effective damage can make Charizard much harder to use.

Tyranitar

Threatens Charizard with Rock-type attacks and sand pressure.

Aerodactyl

Fast Rock-type attacker that can outspeed and pressure Charizard with Rock Slide.

Gyarados

Creates a difficult matchup with strong offensive pressure and type advantage.

Should You Use Charizard?

Charizard is worth using if your team wants sun, special attacking pressure and strong Fire-type damage. Mega Charizard Y is the better build when Charizard is one of your main offensive Pokemon.

The non-Mega build is more flexible, but it is less threatening and should mostly be used when another Pokemon needs the Mega slot.
