The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the Eagles’ Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf.
Hurts originally suffered the calf injury after being cleated during the Eagles’ Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was a full participant in practice last week despite the injury, prior to the Eagles’ Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
An ultrasound was performed before the game, revealing a superficial blood clot in his calf. The Eagles’ medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that Hurts could safely play.
Hurts played without limitations in Week 5 and was even a full participant in practice on Wednesday before a follow-up ultrasound that night revealed movement in the small blood clot, prompting the Eagles to rule him out for this week.
Tanner McKee is expected to start for the Eagles this week. Hurts’ absence only makes matters worse for the Eagles’ offense, which is already dealing with a depleted running back room and injuries to Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, who reportedly didn’t practice Thursday.
