Players Gear Up For The 2023 Travelers Championship

Publish Date: June 22, 2023

The players are gearing up for the 2023 Travelers Championship. This event is at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, and features a 6,852-yard par-70 track. Despite not being a major championship, the Travelers is offering a record-breaking $20 million purse this year.

Xander Shauffele secured the seventh win of his PGA Tour career last season at the Travelers Championship. Shauffele rose above the competition after he shot a 19-under 261. J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala finished second after carding a 17-under 263. US Amateur Michael Thorbjornsen recorded an impressive 15-under 265 and finished in fourth place.

Since the Travelers Championship is a PGA Designated event, a lot of big names are in the field this year. Along with the defending champion, world number one Scottie Scheffler and FedExCup leader John Rahm will be making an appearance.

Players to watch

Scottie Scheffler – As the world’s number one ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler will always be the guy that everyone bets on. After finishing in the top three in the past four tournaments that he has competed in, expect him to be near the top of the leaderboard once again.

Patrick Cantlay – The fourth-ranked golfer in the world has had some average showings lately. Despite this, he is an eight-time PGA Tour champion, and should not be overlooked. Cantlay has the potential to win any tournament he plays.

Rory McIlroy – Although he fell short of Wyndham Clark last week by one stroke, he has been playing some solid golf lately. McIlroy has notched one win this season and has recorded three top-three finishes. Assuming he can make some putts and stay out of his own way, he will be a contender in Connecticut.

The Travelers Championship kicks off early with the first group teeing off at 6:45am ET. The first two rounds will be brought to you by Golf Channel. The final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday will be available on CBS and Golf Channel.
