The PGA Tour’s top players are gearing up for the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open. This legendary event will be hosted at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick. This track features a 7,237-yard par-70 challenge and a $9 million purse.
Olympic gold medalist Xander Shauffele is the tournament’s defending champion. Last year, Shauffele (-7) held off Kurt Kitayama (-6) by one stroke during the final round. Tom Kim (-5), Patrick Cantlay (-4) and Tommy Fleetwood (-4) were also closing in but were unable to finish the job.
Although it is hosted during the same week as another PGA Tour event, the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open is drawing back in an impressive field of the world’s best golfers. These players will include Xander Shauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.
The PGA Tour shared a preview of one of its most exciting challenges on Twitter.
Scottie Scheffler – Despite missing the cut at the Scottish Open last year, Scheffler is prepared to bounce back. He is the number-one golfer in the world. As of late, he is the only player to average over three strokes gained per round. As most golf fans know, if he brings his good stuff, he will win.
Rory McIlroy – Lately Rory has been facing controversy from every which way. Regardless of what critics might be writing about him, he is a great golfer. Currently riding the momentum of five consecutive top-ten finishes, McIlroy is another man to watch this week.
Xander Schauffele – Although he is the tournament’s defending champion, Xander Shauffele has not recorded a win on tour since his last visit to Scotland. This drought is hard to break down, especially since this season has been the best statistical outing for him thus far. Nevertheless, he is a battle-tested competitor who is eager to show the field he is worthy of hoisting the trophy once again.
