Nick Taylor Wins The RBC Canadian Open

Publish Date: June 12, 2023

Nick Taylor secured his third win on the PGA Tour at the RBC Canadian Open. Taylor sank a 72-foot eagle putt to defeat Tommy Fleetwood on the fourth playoff hole. This victory marks Taylor’s first win since the 2019-20 season. Nick earned 500 Fedex Cup Points and a career-high $1,620,000 share of the purse.

The PGA Tour shared this incredible moment on Twitter.

There were 21 Canadian golfers entered the tournament and only eight made the cut. One of the eight was 35-year-old Nick Taylor. After struggling in the first round, Taylor bounced back and carded a 5-under 67 in round two, which was good enough to send him to the weekend.

Nick Taylor started his Saturday round tied for 47. This is where his legendary comeback began. He recorded five birdies and four pars on the front nine and the gallery began to take notice. Nick Taylor took the co-lead after climbing the leaderboard and drilling a birdie on hole 13.

Taylor received a warm welcome from his home crowd as he took the tee box on hole 14. After harnessing the crowd’s energy, he put his tee shot close to the pin. The gallery erupted as he knocked down his birdie putt and earned the solo lead at 10-under par.

After ending a zero-bogey round three with yet another birdie on hole 18, Nick Taylor was locked in for first place at 11-under. He ended his final round with back-to-back birdies and held off Tommy Fleetwood in a four-hole playoff.

When is the next tournament?

The next tournament on the PGA Tour is the 123 U.S. Open. The U.S. Open will be played at Los Angeles Country Club and will feature a purse of $17,500,000.

The 2022 U.S. Open was won by Matt Fitzpatrick who shot a 6-under 274. Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris tied for second place at 5-under 275.

10 past champions will head to Los Angeles to take on the 7,423-yard par-70 track.
