Publish Date: March 24, 2025

Patch 1.1.1 is bringing a lot of changes to Civ 7, including some serious pacing changes to both the Exploration Age and Modern Age, as each will now progress much slower overall. Here are all of the changes and when they will go live in Civilization 7.

Modern Age and Exploration Age will both be much longer in Civ 7

In a March 24 developer live stream, Firaxis devs shared big pacing changes for the Modern Age and Exploration Age of Civ 7, which are set to go live on March 25. These changes will have the following impacts, as shown in the images above.

  • Eliminating a player no longer adds Age progress
  • Age Progress in Exploration has been halved
  • Modern Technology and Civic costs have been increased by 25% overall

Railroad Tycoon Changes

These should greatly help change the way these Ages operate and may even serve to fix the Treasure Fleet issue in the Exploration Age, as players will now have more time to spawn those units. Speeding through the Tech Tree is also something we have seen extensively in Connor’s Let’s Play on CivHaus.
