The release of Overwatch 2 is rumored to be on the horizon. Though unconfirmed, many speculate the game to drop within the next month. Overwatch is a multiplayer team game. And with any team game, playing with friends upon release will be tons of fun. But with the game coming out on so many different consoles, coordinating platforms could prove to be difficult. It always feels terrible when friends have the same game, but on a different console, thereby limiting multiplayer. This then begs the question, Will Overwatch 2 be Cross Play?

Seeing how the game hasn’t officially revealed or leaked quite yet, the answer remains based purely on speculation. The developers stated that they want to push for Cross-Platform play. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be available on launch. The specific function already exists for the original Overwatch. Therefore, it’s pretty likely that Cross-Play functionality will eventually be included with Overwatch 2 as well.
But the only caveat is that there’s a chance that Overwatch 2 may not be Cross-Platform upon release. Yes, the game is almost guaranteed to support cross-platform later, but this feature takes testing and approval on every platform before moving forward. And typically, Sony’s Playstation consoles tends to prohibit Cross-Platform play in order to promote its console exclusives.
To sum things up, Overwatch 2 will likely have cross play. Although not guaranteed, especially upon launch, expect developers to implement the feature at a future date. Keep in mind, the article draws speculative analysis based on preexisting evidence. No official announcement on cross play revealed quite yet.
