Since Overwatch has been out, people have been interested in what heroes are coming next. This is understandable as not only are new heroes exciting but they add to the meta and lore of the game. As of publishing this piece, there are 32 heroes in Overwatch. Echo, who had been revealed during the video of Ashe and McCree has entered the battlefield. Many had been wondering about her or a character like her for a long time. Now it is on to hero 33 and figuring out who they might be. Or is it?
According to an interview with IGN, Echo will be the last hero coming exclusively to the original Overwatch. Many already know that Overwatch 2 has been announced and fans are hoping that it will be released sometime in 2020. The hope and belief is that it will launch in time for the Holiday Season as many games do. There has potentially been a wrench thrown into these hopes and plans though. As COVID-19 has shutdown the planet, many things are getting delayed for an unknown time period. As of now, many game companies have still been able to work from home but, according to many it is not the same and will cause delays.
So to answer the original question, the Next Overwatch Hero or Hero 33 will be released along with Overwatch 2. What is known is that any heroes that are released with Overwatch 2 will also be able to be played in regular Overwatch. The speculation will continue but the only known hero that has been revealed but is not in Overwatch currently is Sojourn. In all likelihood, she will be the next official Overwatch hero. Now it will be interesting to see if Blizzard starts leaving fans clues as to who else could be joining Sojourn and the rest of the crew in Overwatch 2.
