Almost a year to the day we saw the very first appearance of a now almost extinct 2019 Washington Justice team. A team led by now Seoul Dynasty’s Strategic Coach Hyeong-seok “WizardHyeong” Kim. Although their first match was a stomp by the New York Excelsior. The second match, against the London Spitfire, might be one of the few matches that will live on in infamy.

At the start of the second season of the Overwatch League, the dominant composition teams were running was the now impossible triple tank triple-support, also known as GOATs. Neither team was capable of playing it well.
For London. They avoided GOATs until it came to the wire in control simply because they were not comfortable with it. The spitfire also attempted to use Winston, Wrecking ball, Widowmaker, anything but the meta heroes. It would need to be painfully clear that they would lose unless they played the meta for them to fall in line.
In the case of Washington, it was all down to bad coordination, little understanding of how to play the meta and Corey not being great at Zarya. Janus and SanSam were also not happy at all with their position and played terribly for the first few months of the competition. This lead to the midseason pickup of the Swedish duo of LullSiSH and ELLIVOTE, that saw no play last year.

This weekend, the London Spitfire will face off against the Washington Justice in D.C. Though not a real rivalry, these two teams have something to prove after their first bout a year ago. The best possible outcome is for both teams to clearly showcase that they have changed for the better this season. Washington has been doing that so far in Philly. But can London do the same?
