Toronto Defiant Releases Yakpung

Publish Date: October 16, 2019

The Toronto Defiant announced today on Twitter that Jo “Yakpung” Gyeong-mu would no longer be a part of the roster.

He was one of the founding players for the Defiant for their inaugural season and would start for most games. This now leaves the Defiant with no tank line after the releases of Daniel “Gods” Graeser and Normunds “sharyk” Faterins. While this is sad for fans of Yakpung, the Defiant find themselves with a lot of room to experiment and grow. There are many tanks within the league and in Contenders that are willing to sign.

Yakpung found himself on one of the most turbulent rosters during the 2019 season. On top of the dominance of the GOATs meta, it wouldn’t be fair to completely write off Yakpung. It is possible to see the main tank return, but whether it is within OWL or Contenders remains to be seen.

As a reminder, all of the current offseason changes will be continuously updated in TGH’s Complete List of Overwatch League Offseason Moves.
