BREAKING: Toronto Defiant Promote Optidox to Assistant Coach

Publish Date: July 20, 2019

On July 20th, the Toronto Defiant announced on Twitter that Matthew “Optidox” Sims has been promoted to Assistant Coach. He will be working under Beomjoon “Bishop” Lee and alongside fellow Assistant Coach Yunho “Bubbly” Cho. Adding Optidox now means that Toronto no longer have one of the smallest coaching staffs in the league.

History

Optidox started his career in professional Overwatch as the head coach for the Open Division team The Dogmen – Akita. The team was founded by Atlanta Reign Flex Support Dusttin “Dogman” Bowerman and Dallas Fuel Assistant Coach Justin “Jayne” Conroy.

Afterward, Optidox would go to Contenders to coach Team Skyfoxes before their re brand to Meta Skyfoxes. Under his coaching, the team would place 2nd in the North American Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 2 Trials.

Next, Optidox would join the Angry Titans in European Contenders as the Head Coach. The team would place place 2nd at 6-1 and earn a spot in the Overwatch Contenders 2019: Atlantic Showdown. However, once there, the team would drop to the Loser’s Bracket after being defeated by the Fusion University. The team climbed all the way to 3rd where they eventually lost again to Team Envy. Optidox would leave the team shortly after the tournament to become the Head Coach for the Montreal Rebellion.

Under Optidox, the Montreal Rebellion currently sit at 3-2 before his promotion. Optidox has worked with the likes of Andreas “Logix” Berghmans during his time on the team and is once again reunited. Toronto were already one of the more interesting teams to watch in Stage 4. Now with the increase in staff, the Defiant may just make it to the Play-In Tournament at the end of Stage 4.
