The Quick Must-Knows of the Overwatch League Postseason Playoffs

Publish Date: July 10, 2018

As the Overwatch League regular season finished up, four Stage Champions were named and six out of the twelve Overwatch League teams qualified for the Postseason Playoffs. The London Spitfire won Stage 1, the New York Excelsior won Stages 2 and 3, and the Los Angeles Valiant dethroned the NYXL in Stage 4.

With their good performance in the regular season, all three of these teams qualified for the Postseason Playoffs. The three other teams that joined them were the Philadelphia Fusion, Boston Uprising, and the Los Angeles Gladiators. We’re quickly approaching the Postseason Playoffs, which start on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Here are the quick must-knows.

About the Playoff Format

The Postseason matchups for the first week include the Philadelphia Fusion vs Boston Uprising and the London Spitfire vs Los Angeles Gladiators. Both series are best of threes, meaning that the first team to win two games out of the three will move onto the next round. Both teams will play their first match on Wednesday, July 11. Their following games will be on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14. The Philadelphia Fusion vs Boston Uprising deciding games will be on Friday and the London Spitfire and Gladiators will play on Sunday. After the winners are decided, the next round will look very similar. The Semi-Final round is also a best of three format. The lower seed winner from the previous round will play the New York Excelsior and the higher seed will face the Los Angeles Valiant. The first games for those matchups will take place during the following week on Wednesday, July 18. To finish watching the Valiant series tune in on Friday, July 20 and for the New York Excelsior Series tune in Saturday, July 21. The winners of these two series will then play a best of three in the Grand Finals to determine who will be the Inaugural Season Overwatch League Champion.

The Prize Pool

Finally, the stakes are high for all six competing teams. The team who wins the Grand Final will not only be crowned the Inaugural Season Champions, but will also take home a million dollars in prize money. The runner up will also earn a hefty four hundred thousand dollars. But fear not for those who did not make it to the finals, all four other teams will also earn prize money in respect to their placement. The following monetary value for placements can be seen below.
