Although the Dragons’ first week in Season 2 wasn’t up to expectations, it shouldn’t surprise many that Shanghai struggled. Before we get into the Dragons’ only competitor in Week 2, let’s take a look back at last week.
Review
Hangzhou Spark: 2-0-0
The Spark took the league by storm in Week 1, exceeding expectations set by many in the league. Hangzhou’s coordination was superb against the Dragons, including a perfect Ho-jin “iDK” Park boop to push the Dragons into a four-elimation D. Va bomb from Seong-Wook “Ria” Park. Shanghai’s Yong-Jin “YOUNGJIN” Jin fought hard, but the Spark prevailed 3-1 overall.
Player of the Game
Kyeong-bo “GodsB” Kim was terrific against Shanghai. His flexibility on both Zarya and Sombra cause havoc for the Dragons in this matchup.
Vancouver Titans: 1-0-0
In a throwback matchup of RunAway (Titans) and KongDoo PanDragons (Shanghai), and the Titans ran over the Dragons. Young-jin “Gamsu” Noh started in his first game with Shanghai, and the score didn’t accurately mirror the fight. Sang-beom “Bumper” Park seemed to shatter every other second for the Titans, and it proved to make the difference.
Player of the Game
Bumper was easily a man on a mission, even hiding around corners to place a painful surprise Earthshatter on Shanghai.
Preview
Boston Uprising: 1-1-0
Despite everyone’s low expectations on the Uprising coming into Season 2 (especially after Gamsu’s transfer), Boston came back into the scene after a close loss to NYXL and a win over Houston. Cameron “Fusions” Bosworth surprised many (except Conner Knudsen*) in his Overwatch League debut, out-performing the Outlaws’ Austin “Muma” Wilmot.
Fun Fact:
Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim currently leads the Dragons in average eliminations per 10 minutes, with her play on Hammond and D. Va in Week 1.
Player to Watch:
Although it won’t be Gamsu’s first match playing with the Dragons, Shanghai may have the upper hand. It’s been one week since Gamsu was transferred to the Dragons. That means that Gamsu was at a VAST majority of the off-season scrimmages, strategic meetings, etc for the Uprising. With Boston running a heavy GOATs composition (and Shanghai struggled last week), the pressure is going to ride on Gamsu’s shoulders to lead this team and make the calls to lead this team to its first franchise victory.
Prediction: Boston wins 3-2.
