A crack was left in the foundations of the Overwatch League on Wednesday night as the Seoul Dynasty announced the retirement of ChanHyoeng “Fissure” Baek.
No reason was given for the departure, but the Dynasty Twitter account indicated that the choice was Fissure’s, saying “We respect his decision and have mutually agreed to terminate his contract.”
Fissure has long been one of the most polarizing players in the league, well known for his aggressive play and willful personality. He was an inaugural member of the London Spitfire roster, before being traded to the Los Angeles Gladiators. After his controversial absence from the Gladiators’ playoff games, surrounded by rumors of internal strife, he was traded to Seoul before the 2019 season.
Fans and analysts alike reacted with surprise and sadness at the unexpected announcement. Best of luck to a player who has undeniably left his mark in the League and the world of esports.
