The Shock have announced their new colorway going forward into the 2020 Season. They have kept their primary color as orange, but parted ways with the grey and gold. In their stead, the team has picked up silver and black.
The old color scheme was a way for the organization to represent the city through colors. The orange stands for the Golden Gate Bridge, as it is painted ‘international orange’. The gold and silver evoke images of the famous gold rushes of the 1800s, particularly in 1848 which increased the city’s population 25-fold.

The Shock’s new colors silver and black is an homage to the long-time Oakland football team, the Oakland Raiders. The team has been in the city since the 1960s, but in the 2020 NFL season are moving to Las Vegas, Nevada. With this, the team hopes to be able to not only latch onto the existing fanbase in the city, but to capture the passion and essence of said fans.
With only two homestands for the 2020 Overwatch League season, there are limited chances to show out for their home fans. If they can truly recreate the enthusiasm of the Raiders, these weekends will be electric and some of the best the OWL has to offer. The first is the ShockFest from March 28-29 at Zellerbach Hall on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. The second is the Silicon Valley Showdown from July 18-19 at the San Jose Civic Center on the south side of the Bay. Tickets are at Shock2020.com
This announcement comes just days after the Valiant rebranded to the blue and yellow, and the Mayhem changed to black, pink and blue. With new hashtags and color schemes, perhaps more teams will follow suit to make 2020 a season to remember.
