Ranking the Best DPS Heroes in Overwatch’s Latest Patch

winter wonderland skins

Overwatch’s latest patch (1.43) has just gone live and has shaken up the meta for heroes in each of the three roles, which affects heroes all across the game. For example, at support, heroes like Moira received a nerf to her overall healing. This not only hurts her moving forward, but can also hurt tanks which rely on her consistent healing output to survive in the fray.

Because each change in this patch affects so many different heroes, we have broken down which are currently the best in their role. Hopefully, this more detailed guide of each role can help players better operate in the current meta and win more games. For a more general look at all the heroes in the game, be sure to check out our January 2019 Overwatch Tier List.

The Best DPS Hero

Mei, as it currently stands, is the far and away best DPS pick in the current meta. This is, in large part, due to her unbelievable utility. Her primary fire is a great counter to dive, her self-heal allows her to play aggressive and allows healers to pocket tanks, her ice wall can punish even the slightest mistake in positioning and, last but not least, her secondary fire can make her deadly at long range.

Pair all of that insane utility with a surrounding meta that suits her, and Mei becomes a must-pick at DPS on most all map types. If the OWL is played on this patch in 2020, get ready to see a lot of Mei play at the highest level.

Other top DPS Picks

There are a lot of names here, so let’s break this down. What makes DPS picks good in this patch is their ability to break, or get around shields, and their crowd control/survivability. All of the heroes that meet those criteria make this list. Any number of these can be run to attempt to counter double barrier or alongside dive, and several are solid picks for certain map types.

Sub-Optimal Options

Solider: 76

With Baptiste having a higher damage per second than Soldier: 76, he may deserve to be in his own category at the bottom, however, the rest of these aren’t much better. Granted, a highly-skilled Widowmaker or Genji can make up the difference with their skill due to the high ceiling of the heroes. But, even with that in mind, there’s no getting away from the fact that these heroes are either products of not fitting into the meta, have been nerfed or simply haven’t been buffed in ages. Stay away from them in most scenarios.

Overall, there are still situations in which each of these supports can be played, this list is simply meant to rank how they fair in the current meta. To learn more about the state of Overwatch’s other roles, check out our tank and support rankings.
