On Thursday, Paris Eternal flex support Damien “HyP” Souville announced on Twitter that he would be leaving the team and retiring from Overwatch. He stated that this decision was “the hardest one I had to take in my life but the most important thing is that this decision is the best for me, for my well-being and my health.”
HyP got his big start playing for the legendary gaming organization GamersOrigin where he played alongside other well known French Overwatch League players, Gael “Poko” Gouzerch and Benjamin “BenBest” Dieulafait. He then transitioned to Eagle Gaming, who shocked the contenders scene in 2018 when they dominated the competition with their expertise on the GOATs meta.
He has been an integral part of the Paris Eternal since the expansion team was first announced. Although he only played for stage 1 in the 2019 season, he has played the majority of this season for the team. His statement reads that he is “leaving an incredibly talented team today.” HyP says that he will “talk a bit more in detail in the coming days” about his decision to leave at this time.
Former teammates from contenders to OWWC have always described him as kind, intelligent, and comforting. Immediately following his tweet some teammates, such as BenBest took to Twitter in response. BenBest said that he was “the best teammate I have ever had. Always there in the good as in the bad times.” HyP has always been the first one to jump up and grapple his teammates in a victorious hug or a reassuring embrace after a tough loss. His departure will truly be felt throughout the Eternal and French community.
