Overwatch League: Top 5 Plays of the Stage 1 Playoffs

Publish Date: March 26, 2019

The Stage 1 Playoffs ended in an electric 7-map series between the San Francisco Shock and the Vancouver Titans. This series and all of the other Stage 1 Playoff matches were absolutely jam-packed with incredible plays.

With the stakes higher and a massive prize pool on the line, which top plays were the best-of-the-best this weekend? The Game Haus has the top five right here.

5: ChoiHyoBin Shocks the Titans

The Shock, coming off a tough Numbani map, looked equally shaky heading into Annubis. Facing a full-hold at the hands of the Titans, Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi gives the Shock life with this great D.Va bomb. Not only was the bomb well placed and timed, but ChoiHyoBin also is able to kill the de-meched D.Va of Hyeon-Woo “JJANU” Choi to prevent him from re-meching.

4: Haksal Hits Mute on Moth

In a fight the Titans entered down several ultimates, they needed a big play to turn the tide and advance on King’s Row. Just as the fight initiates, Grant “moth” Espe begins the animation to use his Lucio ultimate and, before he can break it down, Hyojong “Haksal” Kim stuns him and he loses the ultimate. The Shock were banking on that healing to claim the fight. Without it, the Titans quickly ran them off the point and claimed victory.

3: Michelle Hacks the King

Coming to the end of a back-and-forth Hollywood streets phase, the Seoul Dynasty had one plan in mind, shut down Sung-hyeon “JJoNak” Bang. If they were on top of tracking ultimates, they likely knew that JJoNak had transcendence, while the other members of NYXL were without ultimates of their own. At that moment, right at the outset of the fight, Min-hyuk “Michelle” Choi hacks JJoNak to prevent him from healing his team. Once this is done, all Seoul have to do is use their ultimates and the map is theirs.

2: MekO Steals the Grav and Gets the 4K

Immediately following the map from above, New York found themselves in desperate need of a win. Yet, despite their desperation, Seoul continued to match them. In the final fight to keep them alive, Tae-hong “MekO” Kim came up big. After eating the enemy team’s Graviton Surge, MekO then launches a perfectly placed and timed D.Va bomb to seal the team fight and give New York life.

1: “The North Never Forgets, The North Will Never be Forgotten”

This moment speaks for itself. After a grueling 7-map series that some are calling the greatest game of Overwatch ever played, the Vancouver Titans claim the Stage 1 title along with $500,000. This takes the cake as the best moment and represents a conglomeration of the best plays from the Stage 1 Playoffs.

Honorable Mention: Glorious Neptuno C9

What’s a week of top plays at The Game Haus without a glorious C9? Keep an eye on the progress bar when Doomfist draws the Atlanta Reign away from the point. Hate to see it.
