A First-of-its-kind Event
Fans in both London and Houston can rejoice, because they’ll be able to attend the off-season match of the Houston Outlaws vs. the London Spitfire, current Overwatch League champions. The two Inaugural Season teams are hosting an event that will take place in both their home cities.
Their first stop will be London, on October 20 in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Houston show-match will happen on January, the exact date is to be announced.
Hosted by the lovely Tom “Stylosa” Stewart, the event will feature all players from the London Spitfire and Houston will send three to four of their own roster. There will be various events featured, such as:
- Game modes, such as 1v1s and mystery heroes.
- A chance to play with the pros on stage in a “Pros and Joe’s” match.
- Raffles with incredible prizes.
- Special guests.
- Highlights of each city.
- Local social media personality appearances.
- And much more!
A rivalry in and out of the Blizzard Arena
Two teams with unconventional play-styles faced against each other multiple times throughout the Inaugural Season. Due to this, the London Spitfire formed a lighthearted rivalry with the Houston Outlaws.
Both of them had their weaknesses when facing one another. While the Outlaws struggled with the once-reigning Tracer meta, it seems London had issues defending against an enemy Junkrat, and even more when it’s Jake “JAKE” Lyon we’re talking about. Above all, the rivalry between the two is taken by the players as something constructive rather than resentful.
In an Overwatch League interview, Jun-Young “Profit” Park said “I think the rivalry against Houston could help us become a better team”. Similarly, Jiri “LinkZr” Masalin said “We like to test ourselves against each other, it’s just really good Overwatch I think”.
However, despite being the current Overwatch League champions, the London Spitfire could only defeat Houston once in all the Inaugural Season, on the Stage 1 Playoffs. Leaving the overall match result in a 4-1, in favor of the Outlaws. Hopefully Blizzard can come up with more fun events during the off-season while the Overwatch community anxiously awaits the start of the new season.
