This marks NY’s second announcement this week, following Hong-joon “HOTBA” Choi’s pickup and Yong-cheol “imt” Jeong’s transition to head coach. This roster pickup was also originally teased on Twitter by Aaron “Halo” Brown on November 11th.

BiaNcA, who used to go by the ID “Kirby,” is an off-tank player formerly on the team’s academy roster, XL2 Academy. Prior to that, he spent several years playing for MVP Space, since early 2017 even. His most notable heroes are Zarya and D.Va. While on XL2 Academy, he was the sole South Korean player and had been on the team the longest prior to disbanding. During the past Contenders season, he didn’t see much playtime, yet in Contenders Gauntlet he was given opportunities to play.
It’s hard to guess how BiaNcA’s time on the New York Excel will go this far out, given that XL2 placed him on the bench for a while. This was likely due to the team wanting more of a cohesive English-speaking roster more than his individual play. However, with New York having picked up HOTBA as well, it remains to be seen which of the two start first. BiaNcA may have trialed extremely well, and match the style the Excelsior are planning to run better. With BiaNcA and HOTBA the NYXL clearly have off-tank options to replace Tae-hong “MekO” Kim. Only time will tell who the New York team chooses to run in which situations.
