After a long drought of new content, the Overwatch team has revealed it’s newest map. Malevento is a new map for Deathmatch game modes, similar to Petra and the most recent new map Kanezaka. There was some
doubt that the map would be announced
as the company has been embroiled in controversy of late. But as fans logged onto PTR on Thursday August 26, they were welcomed with the Overwatch Map Malevento.

Malevento is set in Italy, in a small town that overlooks a sprawling farmland. The architecture in the new map shares many of the same themes as the classic Château Guillard. The large cathedral in the middle of the map appears to be the main fighting area for Deathmatch players. Across the map are several jump pads for some less mobile characters to find high ground advantages during the chaos that is free-for-all games.

The new map serves as the second Deathmatch map in row, with Kanezaka releasing late in 2020. Players have wanted new competitive maps for some time now, but it appears as though the majority of the effort has been shifted to new maps for Overwatch 2. Fans got a quick glimpse of the latest maps for Overwatch 2 earlier this year, but so far there has yet to be any major game changes to Overwatch since the release of Echo in 2019. For the time being, players will have to settle for the new Italian map to hold them over until the next big content reveal in the future.
Make sure to check out the latest map, Overwatch Map Malevento now on the PTR.
