“MSI is committed to supporting aspiring and pro esports athletes around the world by creating innovative hardware and technology that push performance beyond limits,” said Sam Chern, Corporate Marketing VP at MSI. “HU Storm sets the standard and is the undisputed leader in collegiate esports, and we are excited to arm them with gamer-driven MSI gear to pave their way to continued victory.”
Harrisburg University is a trailblazer in the collegiate esports scene. The HU Storm are the university’s varsity sports team. They are also the recent recipients of the Tempest Award for Best Collegiate Esports Program. Former professional players coach both their Overwatch and League of Legends teams. Joe “Joemeister” Gramano, formerly of the Philadelphia Fusion, is the head coach for their Overwatch team and led the team to their first national title last fall.
Last spring, Harrisburg University announced its new esports degree program, where they give students the tools they need to succeed in various aspects of the esports industry. Harrisburg also made headlines after becoming the first university to bring on a former professional player to their team. Elijah “Elk” Gallagher joined HU Storm this spring after playing for the Philadelphia Fusion and Fusion University. Harrisburg University is doing all they can to make their esports program one of the best in the country, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be stopping anytime soon.
