Los Angeles Valiant (4-12) vs. Chengdu Hunters (6-10)
Final Score: Valiant 4-0 Hunters
In contrast to their previous match this week, the Los Angeles Valiant performed very well and looked like a solid team in this series. It seems that, despite struggles with other higher ranked teams, the Valiant know how to play against the Chengdu Hunters.
Oasis: Valiant 2-0 Hunters
Round one was on Gardens. The Valiant, seeming unstoppable, aggressively, and impenetrable, defensively, beat the Hunters with a 100-0 shutout.
In round two on City Center, the Los Angeles Valiant looked again to be very much the superior team, though it was not a complete shutout.
The map ended 2-0 in favor of the Los Angeles Valiant.
Horizon: Valiant 5-4 Hunters
The LA Valiant started on attack on Horizon Lunar Colony. They had little trouble capturing point A, doing so in a little over a minute. Point B was more scrappy, but the Valiant were able to capture it on their second attempt with 4:05 remaining.
On defense, the Valiant held out for a couple of minutes, however the Hunters eventually broke through and took point A. On point B, the LA Valiant were able to stave off Chengdu on multiple occasions, leaving them with only 1:26 in the time bank after capturing it.
The Valiant continued to defend in round three. It was not until overtime that the Chengdu Hunters took point A. The round moved to overtime once again during the fight for point B, and, after considerable stalling from the LA Valiant, the Hunters came out victorious.
On attack in round four, the Los Angeles Valiant captured point A after a little bit of time, but before the fighting had even finished. They went on to run over Chengdu on point B, and claim it with 2:13 left.
Continuing on attack in round five, the LA Valiant had no trouble getting the one tick they needed to close out the map.
The map ended 5-4 in favor of the Los Angeles Valiant.
Numbani: Valiant 5-3 Hunters
The Valiant started on defense on Numbani. They were able to fend the Hunters off for almost three minutes before Chengdu found the picks they needed to turn the fight in their favor and capture point A. There was some contention on point B, but not enough to keep the Chengdu Hunters from completing it. Point C was even more one-sided, with the Valiant unable to properly contest. The Hunters finished out the map with 1:46 left.
On attack, the LA Valiant were kept from capturing point A for a similar amount of time to that of the Hunters, but also eventually found their way through the opposition’s defense. Similarly, Los Angeles was held for a decent time period on point B until a nice round of ultimates gave them the advantage they needed to finally secure it. With under a minute remaining, the LA Valiant finished out the map.
Los Angeles continued on attack in round three. They were quick to take point A out from under the Hunters, but were now in overtime. The Valiant continued to chug on through point B after some back and forth fights. However, their push ended on point C less than two meters from the end of the map.
On defense in round four, the LA Valiant denied the Chengdu Hunters the point A capture and won the round.
The map ended 5-3 in favor of the Los Angeles Valiant.
Havana: Valiant 3-2 Hunters
The LA Valiant started on defense on Havana. They were able to buy a couple minutes of time, but the Hunters eventually finished out point A. Chengdu was denied completion of point B until overtime, but had the right ultimates to get through the Valiant’s defense. On point C, the LA Valiant were successful in stopping the Chengdu Hunters from finishing the map.
The Valiant’s point A attack went smoothly, and they captured it with little trouble. The Hunters showed only some contention on point B, and Los Angeles finished it rather quickly. It was the same story as well on point C, and the LA Valiant finished it out.
The map ended 3-2 in favor of the Los Angeles Valiant.
Conclusion
After a weak showing in their first match of the stage, this victory shows stability now that the LA Valiant are two for two against the Hunters. It also shows some improvement, as this series was much more one-sided in the Valiant’s favor than the previous one between the two teams.
