As the Overwatch League heads into 2021, there are still teams with missing pieces heading into the new season. Fans of the London Spitfire have been waiting patiently for any sort of confirmation surrounding their roster. However after a week of cryptic spoilers, the Spitfire finally announced their next signing. On Monday January 4, the London Spitfire announced the promotion of British Hurricane flex support Riku “Ripa” Toivanen.

For those watching the Overwatch League since the Inaugural Season, Ripa should be a name that sounds familiar. Ripa spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Los Angeles Gladiators. After being released before the 2020 season, Ripa joined the British Hurricane. He spent the entire 2020 season with the Hurricane, participating in the European Contenders scene.

Ripa helped the Hurricane become one of the most successful Contenders teams ever. Through 2020, Ripa and the Hurricane dominated the European Contenders scene. The team took first place in almost every week of Contenders, with the exception of a 2nd place finish at the hands of Obey Alliance. Ripa showcased his ability to play any flex support at a high level with the Hurricane.
Ripa now receives a second chance in the league with the London Spitfire. Joining teammate Jeffrey “blasé” Tsang, Ripa looks to brings the Hurricane standard of winning to the highest level of Overwatch. The London Spitfire roster will continue to be revealed through the week. If rumors are true, fans can expect the remaining roster to consist of the former British Hurricane roster.
