The free agency window for the 2023 Overwatch League season is still a couple of weeks away after numerous push backs. Teams are chomping at the bit to sign from the enormous free agent pool, and the L.A. Gladiators are no exception. After a blazing hot start to the 2022 season, the team fell short of expectations finishing 7-8th alongside the Florida Mayhem.
With only Kevin “kevster” Persson and Daniel “FunnyAstro” Hathaway returning, the team has a lot of flexibility to try and somehow top their all star 2022 roster for 2023. Here are a couple of targets that make the most sense for the team.
Coluge
The Gladiators have always seemed to have main tank issues. Even as far back as the inaugural season, they cannot find a consistent starter that has been able to live up to championship expectations both the team and fans have. That is why Colin “Coluge” Arai would be a perfect fit.
Coluge has been one of the most consistent tanks during the 2022 season and has shown a capacity to play nearly every tank at a high level. With the San Francisco Shock looking to sign the young main tank prodigy Choi “MAX” Su-min from O2 Blast, Coluge practically falls into the lap of the Gladiators.
Kai
One of the premiere hitscan talents in the League, Kai “Kai” Collins should be on L.A.’s radar. In fact, according to Halo of Thoughts on Twitter, Kai may already have a home with the Gladiators. If the team wants to skew more Western, Kai is one of the best options available to pair alongside kevster. Plus he would get to play with fellow Brit FunnyAstro.
Shu
This one hardly needs an explanation. If any of the former 2022 Gladiators absolutely had to be re-signed, it would be Kim “Shu” Jin-seo. The back-to-back Role Star and MVP nominee is arguably the best flex support in the League. It will be up to the Gladiators to make him a convincing offer, and they have shown to be top spenders in the league.
