Houston Outlaws Part Ways with Dante “Danteh” Cruz

Publish Date: December 1, 2022

The Houston Outlaws have been relatively quiet since the end of the season. They noted the release of the three newest players to join the team, however that was the only change the team had made since the end of 2022. But on Thursday December 1, the Outlaws made the shocking announcement that long-time player Dante “Danteh” Cruz will be leaving the team heading into 2023.

Danteh has been with Houston since 2019, when he was traded to the Outlaws after spending the Inaugural season with the San Francisco Shock. Danteh has been a key pillar of this organization, doing just about everything for the team in hopes to find success. Danteh has found the most success as a DPS player for the team, being one of the best Tracer and Sombra players in the league at times. He was also partial to pocket-picking Doomfist for when the time was right.

Danteh also found himself playing some Main Tank throughout his time on Houston. Most recently he took the main share of tank duties through the 2022 season as Overwatch 2 introduced a new 5v5 format. Danth’s ability to play multiple roles at a high level allowed the Outlaws to bring out unique and interesting looks throughout the year. Ultimately, the Outlaws failed to reach the Grand Finals this past season, but the team enjoyed seeing their most successful season to date.

This move signals that the Outlaws could be a radically different team heading into 2023. As the offseason progresses, Houston fans will have to wait to see the entire new plan unfold.
