Welcome to the first Guangzhou Charge preview of the Overwatch League! We will be doing this every week prior to the games starting in order to make sure all the fans are caught up and ready for the games. For this first week of the season, we are going to preview what to expect for the Guangzhou Charge in their Week 1 game.
Chengdu Hunters:
Both of these Chinese teams are new additions to the league and have been considered lower ranked teams in most preseason rankings. Knowing this, both will be looking to prove their strength and merit by starting their records with an early win.
Not much has been seen of Chengdu at this point besides their Mystery Heroes match against Shanghai in the Community Countdown. Additionally, due to visa issues, they are down one of their lead DPS players, Zhang “YangXiaoLong” Zhihao. On the other hand, Guangzhou participated in the Pacific Challenge Showmatch against the Seoul Dynasty, which ended in a draw. Based on this strong showing, and the variety of talent they have on their side, this seems a likely win for the Charge.
Prediction: Guangzhou wins 3-1
Fun Fact of the Week:
The Guangzhou Charge are the first team in the league to combine players from Korean, Chinese, European and North American regions, bringing in four distinct types of playstyles under one team!
Player to Watch:
The player you should keep an eye on the most this week would be Seung-pyo “Rio” Oh. While the Charge have several DPS and Support players to choose from, Rio is the only main tank on the Charge. Therefore, his level of play this week and his synergy with off tank Hong-joon “HOTBA” Choi will most likely signal how effective this team will be throughout the rest of the stage.
Guangzhou’s first Overwatch League match is scheduled for 8:30 PST on Friday, February 15.
