Updated: Fusion announces co-head coaches

In a shocking move, the Philadelphia Fusion has announced that Elliot Hayes and Se-Hwi “Hwi” Go have been promoted to co-head coaches. Yann “Kirby” Luu has not made an official announcement regarding what this means for him going forward. This story will be updated as more information comes in.

Under Kirby’s leadership, Philadelphia fought their way to the Overwatch League grand finals. Philadelphia had an up and down season. They started strong but fumbled their way through stages 2 and 3. With the help of Hwi and Hayes, Kirby molded the Philadelphia players into the stars they are today.
Coming off of an overall great ending to the inaugural season, the announcement of Hwi and Hayes becoming co-head coaches is surprising. Many fans are wondering what this means for the Fusion going into season 2. After losing to the London Spitfire, Philadelphia will undoubtedly be looking for redemption next season. Having two head coaches will give Philadelphia an advantage going into season 2 because of what each Hayes and Hwi will bring to the table.

What Next

Philadelphia has the most diverse roster in the league. It makes sense for there to be an English coach and a Korean coach. Both will work together to get the players on the same page. Stronger communication among players is sure to give Philadelphia an edge next season.
Many teams struggled with language barriers last season. The Shanghai Dragons had to learn Chinese, Korean, and English. This often resulted in messy comms during matches. The Los Angeles Gladiators also struggled with language barriers. Speaking the same language was important to Baek “Fissure” Chan-hyung; it was one of his reasons for wanting to transfer to Seoul Dynasty.
With Hayes and Hwi working together, the Philadelphia Fusion will come back looking stronger than ever next season.

Update: Last night, President Tucker Roberts made a tweet saying that Kirby is still on staff. He apologized to fans for any confusion. We will continue updating this story as more information comes in.
