Misfits Gaming and the Florida Mayhem have announced their partnership with Gift of Life Marrow Registry to fight blood cancer. Gift of Life is an organization that facilitates transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic diseases.
Misfits Gaming, the parent organization of the Overwatch League team the Florida Mayhem, will work with Gift of Life to educate the public and recruit new marrow and stem cell donors at tournaments and gaming events. The partnership will kick off with a first-of-its-kind appearance at the Florida Mayhem Team Day, held at the Blizzard Arena on August 8. Players, coaches and fans will show their support for Gift of Life by participating in discussions and activities that will further aid in the fight against these terrifying diseases.
How You Can Help
Misfits Gaming and Gift of Life, both based in Florida, will be pushing swab drives across the colleges and universities of Florida. Young donors aged 18 to 35 provide the most successful outcome for transplant recipients, which naturally overlaps with student and esports audience demographics worldwide. Transplant physicians actually request this age demographic in donors 85 percent of the time.
Founder of Gift of Life Jay Feinberg is particularly excited about the impact this partnership could have in spreading their vital message online. “We are thrilled to team up with Misfits Gaming and the Florida Mayhem, who are ideal partners in the battle against blood cancer and other diseases,” said Feinberg. “This is an incredible opportunity to save more lives than ever before!” With new age campaigns being pushed through the likes of Twitch and Caffeine, viewers will be urged to order a cheek swab kit and potentially save someone’s life.
“Gift of Life is a fantastic organization that has saved and improved the quality of lives for almost 30 years, and all of us in Misfits Gaming and the Florida Mayhem are proud to be partnering with them,” said Florida Mayhem President John Kracum. “What I love most about this campaign is that not only does it let us and our community rally around a worthy cause, but it empowers our fans by letting them help others and save lives.”
Hopefully, everyone gets involved during the event today at the Mayhem Team Day and we see more teams partner with organizations with a worthy cause. The Overwatch League action resumes tonight as the Vancouver Titans take on the London Spitfire at 7 pm ET.
