Florida Mayhem: Stage 3 Week 5 Preview

Publish Date: July 4, 2019

The Florida Mayhem have two matches this week in Atlanta. One of these matches is against the Atlanta Reign. A team without a win this stage, Atlanta will endure a lot of pressure this weekend in front of their local fans. If the Atlanta Reign are not on their best form, this series could be competitive. Florida’s other match is against the New York Excelsior. And well… as the opening match of the Atlanta Homestand, it does not promise to be anything other than a hot Floridian bloodbath.

Florida Mayhem vs New York Excelsior

The Florida Mayhem should go into this match with some confidence. The New York Excelsior have lost twice to the Atlanta Reign and were barely able to squeak out a win last week against the Dallas Fuel. Both the Dallas Fuel and the Atlanta Reign are generally trending downwards. Because of this, the Mayhem should not be discouraged.

In saying that, the Florida Mayhem generally fair better against teams that enjoy playing instinctively and scrappily. Their only two wins this year came against the Houston Outlaws and Philadelphia Fusion. Two teams that are not known for their tight and rigid GOATS gameplay, but for their mechanical prowess. In these matches, Florida were able to overcome their mistakes in coordination and decisiveness by relying on set plays and their own mechanical skill.

Florida has only ever taken one map off of the New York Excelsior. And despite any optimistic sentiment put forth above, New York should win this series. New York are second overall in the league standings and always manage to find an extra gear to shift into when their matches are close. The Excelsior have a potent DPS roster at their disposal, matched only perhaps by the San Francisco Shock’s DPS roster. With the Meta slowly shifting toward something closer resembling a typical Chengdu Hunters composition, the New York Excelsior will be hard to top.

Match Prediction: New York Excelsior 4 – 0 Florida Mayhem

Florida Mayhem vs Atlanta Reign

This is the match that the Florida Mayhem should be dedicating their practice time towards. This match is totally winnable. The Atlanta Reign are another team that is notorious for playing free-flowing and aggressive Overwatch. This kind of playstyle also suits Florida. And with two weeks worth of synergy built between Florida’s old and new players, this could be the best looking Florida team the league has ever seen.

With the rising popularity of DPS compositions, theErsterre is one player on the Atlanta Reign that teams must fear. Jeong “ErsTer” Joon is a flexible DPS beast and should be seen as the standout star on this roster. ErsTer has great statistics on Brigitte, and when flexed off of that role can play just about anything. The Florida Mayhem should be on high alert, and will certainly need to match this DPS talent in order to win.

The Atlanta Reign have shown that they can win against the best of teams. However, they struggle to win where they are expected to. This could be considered as a bit of a trap game for Atlanta, they should not underestimate their opponent.

Match Prediction: Atlanta Reign 3 – 2 Florida Mayhem
