The Florida Mayhem announced on Wednesday their first two free-agent signings of the offseason. Nam-jin “Gangnamjin” Gang and Jun-ki “Yaki” Kim join the Mayhem from Runaway, one of the most popular teams in Korean Contenders. Gangnamjin will fill the flex support position while Yaki will play Damage.

The moves are the first during a much-anticipated offseason for Florida after two disappointing seasons in the Overwatch League. After their success with Runaway, both Yaki and Gangnamjin were hot commodities for teams looking to upgrade their rosters with talent from Contenders. Yaki, in particular, will be the flexible DPS superstar that this franchise has lacked in its early years and an excellent complement to Jeongwoo “Sayaplayer” Ha’s hitscan expertise.
For the Mayhem, these signings represent a new direction for the franchise. They’ve finally decided to shell out for top free-agents in pursuit of the success that has eluded them for two years. Yaki was one of the most sought-after prospects of the offseason, and Florida won the bidding war. While the Mayhem might not be done building their team, today’s signings are certainly a good start.
