Florida Mayhem Announce Their Roster for the 2021 Season

Florida Mayhem 2021 Roster

The Florida Mayhem are the latest team to reveal their roster for the 2021 Overwatch League season. In the afternoon on Friday December 11, the Mayhem announced their seven players on their 2021 roster via Twitch stream. The team welcomes back Sang-beom “BQB” Lee, Jun-ki “Yaki” Kim, Beom-jun “Gargoyle” Lee, and Nam-jin “Gangnamjin” Kang, while signing three new players – Min-seok “OGE” Son, Seung-hun “Checkmate” Baek, and Sung-jun “Slime” Kim.

During the announcement stream, Head Coach Dae-kuk “Kuki” Kim and General Manager Albert “yeHHH” Yeh discussed a small amount of the roster building process. The two also revealed the contract situation of their players, an unusual move for most Overwatch League team. The notable contracts are of the two DPS players Yaki and Checkmate, as they are locked in for two years with an additional option year. Typically teams will sign players to a “1+1”, making it clear that Florida believes in Yaki and Checkmate for the future.

The team will look for bounce back seasons for both OGE and Slime. OGE joins the Mayhem after an up and down year with the Los Angeles Gladiators. Slime on the other hand will hopefully enjoy a more stable season with the Mayhem, after being dropped from the Vancouver Titans and later picked up by the Seoul Dynasty.

It looks as though the Mayhem will stick with a league-minimum of seven members of the roster. Coach Kuki mentioned that having a small roster will work best for their style of play. For the time being, it also appears as the team expects to stay in North America to compete in the Atlantic division. A decision that didn’t look too surprised, until Philadelphia’s announcement on Thursday December 10.
