The Chengdu Hunters’ 2020 Roster Leaked

Publish Date: December 31, 2019

The Overwatch Beacon released a leaked image of the Chengdu Hunters’ roster for the 2020 season. The OW Beacon, a twitter account known to report on the Chinese Overwatch scene, released the image earlier today.

The image is reportedly from an event commemorating Royal Never Give Up (RNG) 7th anniversary, which they celebrated today. The RNG is a Chinese esports organization and a partner with the Chengdu Hunters, and is known for its League of Legends team. The event was attended by DPS player Yi “JinMu” Hu, who is seen in some official photos of the event.

Coaching and Support staff

Since the departure of Coach Xingrui “RUI” Wang, who left due to health issues, the Hunters have yet to announce a new head coach. The leaked image clearly shows some new members of the coaching staff and support staff. With five weeks remaining of the off-season, official announcements are bound to come in.

Chia-Hua “RAY Chang, currently the assistant coach, looks as if he will remain on the coaching staff. Wu “Dokkaebi” Xiuqing, is named and is currently a head coach for the Chengdu Hunters academy contenders team LGE.Huya – he appears to be making the jump to the OWL.

An exciting addition to the coaching staff, according to the leaked list, is Guan “Garry” Li. Garry was a support player for the Chengdu Hunters, but spent much of the season on the bench. Last week, the Beacon reported on rumors that Garry was transitioning to a coaching position, and this recent leak all but confirms it. Garry is also a senior member of the Hunters.

New Players

On Friday, the Hunters announced they released two players, Wei “jiqiren” Yansong and Zhang “YangXiaoLong” Zhihao (Read about their release here). Many were speculating that the Hunters were planning on picking up at least one main tank and one support. However, this list suggests that the Hunters have picked up two new support players and one main tank player.

Chen “Lengsa” Jingyi, He “Molly” Chengzhi and Chen “ATing” Shao-Hua appear to be new additions for the Chengdu Hunters’ 2020 roster. All three are former members of the Hunters’ academy team, LGE.Huya.

ATing, a main tank player, played for LGE.Huya briefly and then played for another Chinese contenders team called Nova Monster Shield- which recently disbanded. Last week, the OW Beacon reported that ATing was a rumored pick up for the Hunters.

Chinese support player Tong “Coldest” Xiaodong, was rumored to be a new pick up for the Hunters- reported initially by Arran “Halo” Brown about a month ago. Coldest was noticeably not on the list. Many were expecting ATing and Coldest to become the newest members.

The off-season is coming to a close, it was only a matter of time before the Hunters officially announced their roster moves. After an agonizingly quiet off-season from them, it is good to hear what their plans are for 2020 finally. Hopefully, official announcements will be coming soon.
