It was confirmed by the Nintendo New York twitter account that Blizzard has canceled their launch event. Below is the tweet declaring the cancelation.

This launch has seemingly been in the works for at least a week when the account first tweeted about it, the cancellation likely comes as a result of the ongoing situation between Blizzard and Hong Kong. It’s worth noting, however, that no exact reasoning was provided for the cancelation.
For clarity, Overwatch is still launching on the Nintendo Switch today, October 15.
