Season 6 Dennis Hawelka Award

Publish Date: October 1, 2023

The Dennis Hawelka award is given at the end of each season to a player that embodies the spirit of Dennis Hawelka. In 2017 Dennis ‘Internethulk’ Hawelka who was a beloved player and coach in the Overwatch community passed away. This yearly award goes to a member of the Overwatch League community who has the same positive energy and can inspire those around him. In Season 5 of the Overwatch League the honor goes to Ham ‘Someone’ Jeongwan.

Someone

Some has been a fan favorite for his positivity on and off the screen. But it became official when he picked up the Dennis Hawkelka Award. Someone is a player that has taken responsibility for the team. His mentorship has helped the players in many different areas. As seen on broadcast he is the mood maker, hyping the players up but also making sure when it needs to be serious that everyone is focused.

He embodies the spirit of Dennis Hawkelka. He is a top tier player but he never lost that fun spirit to have a good time while playing. He brings his team, players, and fans together. That has in turn has helped the team to achieve victories together. Though there has been tough years for Someone he has continued his leadership role. He hopes that his teammates have felt his positive energy that he gives out and that he has been able to communicate well with them.

Someone joins the ranks of Pongphop ‘Mickie’ Rattanasangchod, Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy, Caleb ‘McGravy’ McGarvey, Yeong-han ‘SP9RK1E’ Kim, and Hadi “Hadi” Bleinagel who all in previous seasons won the award. For everything Someone has done for the community, the 2023 Dennis Hawelka award is well deserved. Congratulations!
