Overwatch 2 is real and it has an official release date. Players can finally play the much anticipated sequel when the beta arrives later this month. There are new characters and new maps to explore, and players cannot wait to get their hands on all of the great new content. However fans want to know when the first season of Overwatch 2 kicks off. The Overwatch 2 Season 1 start date is the same date as the release – October 4.
Moving forward, Overwatch 2 is moving towards a live-service model. What this means is that Overwatch will no longer only have competitive seasons, but the entire game will run on a seasonal schedule. Each season will contain a new battle pass that allows players to unlock new cosmetics based on experienced gained. This model is similar to those seen in games like VALORANT and Apex Legends.
With the start of each season, players gain access to new battle passes, which include brand new cosmetics. Players can earn gun charms, skins and even exclusive emotes depending on how far they progress through the battle pass.
Some fans were hesitant about the change to battle pass model. Some players were not excited to simply copy the content plan from other big games, and lose the lootbox model. However it appears the developers see the value of making the game free to play and having people simply pay for the content that they want. With a brand new store as well, there will certainly be plenty of new content for players to grab each and every season starting with the Overwatch 2 Season 1 start date.
