Ohio State’s Urban Meyer to Retire After Rose Bowl

Urban Meyer will retire from coaching after the team’s appearance in the Rose Bowl according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Meyer will be replaced by offensive coordinator Ryan Day, who filled in for him this season when he was serving his suspension for his possible knowledge of the Zach Smith incident. Day will be announced as head coach in a press conference on Tuesday at 2 p.m. EST and will take over immediately after the Rose Bowl.

This announcement comes after reported friction between Meyer and the administration at Ohio State.

Health is definitely a factor in the decision as well. He retired after coaching Florida for health problems and now can be seen visibly ailing on the sidelines during games. Meyer has had migraines from his congenital arachnoid cyst in his brain.

Meyer has never coached in the Rose Bowl and will get his first, and final opportunity, to do so.

Over his career, Meyer has three National Championships, two at Florida and one at Ohio State. his career record is 186-32. At Ohio State, he has posted an 82-9  record.
