Four Jets prospects are in Plymouth, Michigan this week for the World Junior Summer Showcase. The participating 2022 draft picks include Garrett Brown, Rutger McGroarty, Elias Salomonsson and Fabian Wagner. Brown and McGroarty are playing for the USA Blue and White teams, respectively. Salomonsson and Wagner are both representing Sweden.
The first game of the showcase resulted in a 7-0 shutout by Sweden over USA Blue on Saturday. Salomonsson, a second-round pick by the Jets, took a penalty in the first period. His countryman, Wagner, meanwhile, had an assist on the game’s opening goal by Detroit Red Wings draftee Anton Johansson.
In June, Wagner signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Jets. During the 2022-2023 season, he tallied 33 points in 33 games with the Linkoping J-20 team.
Game two took place a few hours later and saw USA White falling to Finland 4-2. McGroarty, who will soon be entering his sophomore year at the University of Michigan, scored a goal in the first period, assisted by Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson.
Games three and four – Finland versus USA Blue and Sweden versus USA White – are taking place on Monday. The Showcase runs through August 4; the rest of the schedule is available via USA Hockey.
