Stars Acquire Oleksiak From the Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins traded defenseman Jamie Oleksiak back to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2019 fourth-round pick.

Oleksiak, 26, played 83 games with the Penguins, scoring 25 points ( 8 G, 17 A) with +18 plus/minus rating. Oleksiak was selected 14th overall by the Stars in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. During his time with the Stars he played 140 games, scoring 22 points (7 G, 15 A) and -23 plus/minus rating.

On December 19, 2017, the Penguins acquired him from the Stars for the same 2019 4th-round pick. The Penguins will now have three fourth-round picks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

“It’s a chance to add a player that replaces two guys we haven’t had all year. He’s a big, strong, weighty guy. He’s a more mature player than he was when he left here. It’s just part of the process. We think he’s the perfect guy to come in and eat up 15 minutes of ice time.” said Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill.

The Stars needed depth in defense after Marc Methot had season-ending surgery on Monday. Oleksiak could debut with the Stars on Wednesday, Jan. 30, against the Buffalo Sabres.
