San Jose Sharks Find Clutch Performance Against Vancouver Canucks

Publish Date: November 27, 2023

The San Jose Sharks broke an eight game losing streak against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Prior to Saturday, their last win was on November 9 against the Edmonton Oilers.

Sharks Versus Canadiens on Friday

On Friday, the Sharks lost to the Montreal Canadiens (3-2) in a shootout after blowing a 2-0 lead in the second period.

The matchup saw Sharks put up a lead in the second with goals from Mike Hoffman assisted by William Eklund and Tomas Hertl. Eklund scored the second goal with another assist from Hertl and the newly acquired Calen Addison.

Two minutes before the end of the second, Montreal’s Johnathan Kovacevic brought the Habs within one.

“There was a great execution in the O [offensive] zone,” Montreal coach Martin St. Louis said, “Getting that goal at the end of the second was big.”

Tying up the game 2-2 was the Canadiens’ Cole Caufield, who also picked up an assist in the second period. This was Caufield’s first goal after a six-game goal drought.

The teams played bonus hockey with overtime and shootout. In the sixth round, Montreal’s Jesse Ylonen scored the game winner.

While the Sharks fell under clutch performance moments, the Sharks outshot Montreal 33-24. This marks the first time the team has outshot an opponent.

Sharks Best Vancouver on Saturday in Back-to-back Performance

The Sharks played back-to-back games at the tank and beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3. This is their fourth win in 21 games.

Kaapo Kahkonen was in net for the Sharks, making 33 saves. Vancouver bested San Jose for shots on goal at 33-22.

Sharks’ Ty Emberson scored his first NHL goal at 9:58 in the first period. Tomas Hertl and Hoffman picked up assists.

Vancouver answered with a power play goal from Filip Hronek.

At 14:05 in the second, Fabian Zetterlund put the Sharks back in the lead.

The Canucks’ Brock Boeser scored on the power play late into the second with assists from J.T. Miller and Hronek.

Just seconds into the third period, the Sharks’ Mikael Granlund scored, making the game 3-2 with assists from Addison and Mario Ferraro.

A minute later, Hoffman scored a 4-on-3 power play goal at 1:48. The defenseman now has six goals in his last six games. Granlund and Addison picked up assists.

Vancouver’s Boeser scored another late into the third, but the Sharks held on until the clock ran out for a 4-3 win.

The Sharks go against the Vancouver Canucks once more this season on December 23.
