Michael Russo has confirmed on Twitter that the Minnesota Wild will debut an alternate jersey combination for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. The jersey will be a variation of the Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey used last season. Although, there will be slight changes that have not yet been released.
Adidas unveiled the popular Reverse Retro jersey for each National Hockey League prior to the 2020-2021 season. The jerseys paid homage to each NHL club’s history, cited as “throwback jerseys with modern twists”. Two years later, Adidas released the Reverse Retro 2.0 line. The Minnesota Wild’s reverse retros draw heavily from the green and gold scheme utilized by the Minnesota North Stars. The North Stars played in Minnesota for 26 seasons, from 1967 to 1993, before an ugly departure sent the team to Dallas.
It is unknown what changes will be made for the upcoming season. NHL fans have mocked the current Wild Reverse Retro color scheme for being too close to the fast food sandwich chain Subway. Despite this, the Reverse Retro jerseys are quite popular in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Many fans speculate about an addition of the color black. Adding a black trim would be a welcome change and help break away from the Subway comparison. While black was not featured in the original North Stars color scheme, it was introduced in the early 1980s and became more prominent until the team left for Dallas in 1993.
The NHL announced in March that Fanatics would become the new uniform supplier starting in 2024-2025 replacing Adidas. Many fans wondered what the transition may mean for the future of the widely acclaimed Reverse Retro jerseys. At least, Wild fans will see some version of them for at least another season.
