The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced that Nikita Kucherov and Zack Smith are both fined $5,000 for their actions in separate games on Feb 1.
Kucherov was fined for his dangerous trip on New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield. Kucherov was penalized a minor penalty for tripping. The Tampa Bay Lightning ended up winning 1-0 in a shootout.
Smith was fined for elbowing Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Smith was penalized for a minor penalty for elbowing. The Ottawa Senators loss 5-3 in regulation.
The $5,000 fine is the maximum amount under the collective bargaining agreement. The money goes to the Player’s Emergency Fund.
