The New Jersey Devils and impending RFA winger Jesper Bratt agreed to an 8-year contract worth $7.875 million per year on Thursday.
TSN’s Pierre LeBrun was the first with the news on Twitter.
The team officially announced the signing shortly after.
The Devils and Jesper Bratt tried getting a contract done last offseason but couldn’t quite get it done. Some speculated it was due to Bratt’s agent being stingy but that’s part of being a player agent.
There was also some minor trade speculation among fans but no source confirmed anything on that front.
Bratt, 24, had 32 goals and 41 assists for 73 points last season. It marked his second straight 70-point campaign. He also had 6 points in 12 playoff games which was a lackluster showing to many. Nonetheless, young wingers who score 30 goals and get 70 points don’t exactly grow on trees.
Another member of this young Devils forward group has been locked up to a team-friendly long-term deal.
