The Kraken’s coaching position is vacant, so there is no doubt that the new NHL team will be looking for a qualified candidate to fill the head coaching position. Bruce Boudreau is interested in the job.
Boudreau’s Coaching Background
Boudreau previously coached for a slew of minor league hockey teams. During this time, he helped the Hershey Bears win the 2006 AHL Calder Cup.
He didn’t begin coaching his first NHL team until late 2007. It was during this time that he was officially named interim head coach of the Washington Capitals. Soon, this led to an actual head coaching position with the Caps just a month later.
During his freshman season with the team, he recorded a 37-17-7 record. This was a crucial turnout for a team looking for a better start to their season. When Boudreau started off as interim head coach, the Caps were at a 6-14-1 record.
Certainly it seems that Boudreau was just what the Caps were looking for. He has good coaching and leadership abilities to bring a team through a rocky start.
This was only the beginning of Boudreau’s coaching success. During his second season, he led the Caps to a 50-24-8 record, finishing off the season with 108 points. Coupled with the team’s great performance that season, the Caps earned a Southeast Division title.
Throughout Boudreau’s third season with the Caps, he brought even more to the table. Things went smoothly that season. Under his leadership, his team finished off with a 54-15-13 record. In addition, the Caps won the Presidents’ Trophy.
However, things began turning the opposite direction for the hockey organization. The wins just weren’t coming like they used to. Consequently, the team’s poor marks meant that Boudreau needed to be fired.
After being fired from the Caps in late 2011, the Anaheim Ducks picked him up as head coach shortly after.
Unfortunately, his coaching career did not last long with the Ducks. In 2016, Boudreau was fired.
Shortly thereafter, he opened a new chapter of his coaching career with the Minnesota Wild. Overall, the team had a shaky season. It was a problem that would continue for years. In early 2020, Boudreau was fired as head coach once more.
Could Boudreau Be the Ideal Coach for the Kraken?
Despite being fired three times thanks to a few unsuccessful seasons, Boudreau has more good things to bring to the table.
First, Boudreau has helped the Caps produce important wins, especially during his first year as head coach. This was ultimately his biggest year yet, as he helped a team turn from going downhill and into the winning direction.
With all the contributions Boudreau has made, it is only certain that he has proven potential to be a successful head coach for the Kraken.
The Kraken are a new hockey team looking for a coach to produce wins and help them win the Stanley Cup Trophy at the end of the season. This is the eye target.
There is still some time left for the Kraken to look over their options. But Boudreau wants this job and is quite confident that he can create a successful, winning championship team in the Kraken.
